Antique 9ct Gold Photo Locket
Although photography had been invented way back in the 1800s, when this locket was made, it would still have a semi big deal to be able to carry around a photograph of loved ones. The baby photograph inside this one is not a regular photo printed on paper, but it’s printed on enamel and fixed permanently to the glass. This was an answer to faded photographs, which was a problem with 19th century methods, and a real break-through in technology.
I love these lockets, they have such clever but simple engineering; you simply unscrew the top section and pull it off, releasing the gold frame. You simply insert whatever photographs/keepsake you want, close the sides over the glass and screw back up, it works just as well now as it did over 100 years ago. Please note the baby photograph cannot be removed as it is attached to the glass.
