Victorian 18ct Gold & Old Cut Diamond Cross Pendant
Woweeee this goes to the top of the special pile. It’s kind of breath-taking, from the chunky little old cut diamonds, to the incredibly detailed wreath hanging so realistically, and the open cruciform which is both bold and delicate at the same time delicate? It’s a yes from me.
This must have been a memorial piece, the bow which surmounts the cross is enamelled in black, save for one little piece of ‘ribbon’. I initially thought this was damage, but on closer inspection, I realised it has been left bare intentionally, and is even decoratively engraved. It’s a kind of whimsical touch, why?! Who cares, it’s so wholly unique it gives me goose bumps!
The diamonds are gorgeously old and nobbly, if triple X, D flawless diamonds are you thing, this isn’t for you! I would estimate approximate total carat weight to be 0.5- 0.6ct. I suspect the bottom diamond is a replacement as it is cut differently to the others, but only noticeable on close inspection.
You put this pendant on, and it feels a little goth, it feels luxurious and sumptuous, it’s about 140 years old but looks so fresh.
