Art Nouveau 18ct Gold, Amethyst and River Pearl Brooch / Pin
Most definitely the prettiest jewel I have seen in a long time. This little dreamboat was made in America around 1900. Strong Art Nouveau vibes, and oh so typical of great jeweller being made in the states at this time. The ‘winged heart’ is based around the most gorgeous little amethyst, cabochon cut on top, and faceted on the back. The lapidary would have chosen to cut it this way, as the saturation of colour in this stone was so good. A lesser stone would have been faceted all over.
Mississippi river pearls accent the piece perfectly, the biggest being the drop, I love the smaller ones in the swags (such detail!), but I adore the little one crowning the amethyst heart. The gold has a beautiful satin finish, and the pin has a roller catch, typical of fine jewellery of the era from America. The detail and quality is superb, it is literally perfect.
